But then I came across this recipe. The title caught my eye - I'm a big, big fan of sweet bread - and to my delight I discovered that this dough recipe is made in your breadmaker!
These buns are some of the softest and fluffiest homemade buns I've come across. They still are soft the next day, and on the third day just pop one in your microwave to heat it up, smear with Nutella, and you're good as gold.
Soft & Fluffy Sweet Rolls
makes about 20 rolls
1 buttermilk (mix 1 C milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice and sit for 5 minutes)
60g softened butter
3 1/4 C flour
1/3 C sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
Simply dump in all of the ingredients in the order listed and start the dough cycle on the machine. The machine mixes the dough and lets it rise. Once the breadmaker finishes, roll the dough into golf-sized balls and place into a pan. The dough may be a little sticky, so I usually smear butter onto the tips of my fingers before handling the dough. Cover the rolls and leave to rise for about an hour in a warm place. Preheat your oven to 180C.
Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops turn a deep golden brown colour. If you’re baking in a clear glass pan, you can peek at the sides and bottom edges to see if there’s a little browning.
