the {semi-failure} orange rolls

I had high hopes for these orange rolls. Very high hopes. Jenn describes these rolls as "soft and flaky and chewy and have an amazing orange flavor." I love all types of breads and rolls (more specifically orange-flavoured rolls) so I thought this one would be perfect.

I halved the recipe, but otherwise followed it closely for once. The mistake happened because I didn't add enough flour to the dough, so it was sticky and hard to work with. That made it very hard to roll up easily after I added the orange topping. I really should've gone back and added more flour, but I just let it rise anyway.

So I continued with the recipe, rolled out the dough, spread it with the orange mixture, rolled it up and sliced it, then placed it in a baking dish to rise. Once risen, I put it in the oven with little hope that they'd actually work out. I was hoping for rolls. Round, perfectly-shaped buns.

Much to my surprise, they actually worked out! They ended up a with a pudding-y yet bread-y texture which I wasn't expecting but the rolls tasted amazing. They were a bit like a pudding, but not so saucy. Deeeelish.

I'll definitely be doing this recipe again...but next time I'll purposely put less flour in the dough.

I halved this recipe and put only 3 cups of flour. As soon as they came out of the oven, I poured the orange frosting over the top. Best served hot and fresh out of the oven.
